SLC to Zihuatanejo
Getting to Zihuatanejo is simple but does require some planning. If you’re traveling from Salt Lake City, we recommend flying Delta to Mexico City (4 hours) and then catching the quick flight from Mexico City to Zihuatanejo (1 hour 15 mins) on Aeromexico which is a Delta Affiliate. Be sure to plan your Mexico City layover with enough time to clear customs. On average, it takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to clear customs and immigration in Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport. Keep the little piece of paper they give you and stuff it in your passport. Speaking of passports, please visit the Passport FAQ question to ensure seamless travel.
Zihuatanejo Airport to the Town
Zihuatanejo Airport to the Town
Once you’ve landed in Zihuatanejo you’ll be overwhelmed by the sheer size of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport. Jokes. It’s tiny and convenient. Once you grab your bags, you have some options listed below:
Official Airport Taxis (Authorized Inside Airport)
Cost: 760 to 950 pesos → approximately $40 to $50 USD
Booking: Purchase a voucher at the official taxi counter inside the arrivals area.
Travel Time: Approximately 20–25 minutes.
Note: These are the only taxis permitted to pick up passengers directly at the airport. If you want to save a few pesos catch a taxi outside the airport.
Taxis Outside the Airport
Cost: 380 to 570 pesos → approximately $20 to $30 USD
How to Access: Exit the airport and walk about 1,000 feet beyond the airport’s property to find taxis waiting.
Travel Time: Approximately 20–25 minutes.
Considerations: This option is more economical but may require a short walk with luggage.
Moving Around Town
Depending on where you stay getting around town is easy with an abundance of taxis waiting on nearly every street corner. We recommend taking taxis during the day which will run you less than $10 and walking around at night. There are no Lyft or Uber services in Zihuatanejo.
